The Federal Government believes that our kids and our country can’t afford four more years of neglect and indifference. At this defining moment in our history, America faces few more urgent challenges than preparing our children to compete in a global economy. The decisions our leaders make about education in the coming years will shape our future for generations to come. Obama and Biden are committed to meeting this challenge with the leadership and judgment that has been sorely lacking for the last eight years. The Federal Education plan will restore the promise of America’s public education, and ensure that American children again lead the world in achievement, creativity and success.
The Federal Governments main goal is to combat the educational affordability crisis in America. After all, the price of college tuition and fees have jumped 439 percent in the last 25 years – which is three times the rate that median incomes have climbed – and at this rate, college may become unaffordable for the majority of Americans by 2030. To stay globally competitive, an educated workforce is necessary, and therefore the Government wants to combat the college affordability crisis now.
So how does Obama propose America invests its money in higher education? The American Reinvestment and Recovery Plan proposes three strategies: an increased number of Pell Grants, a $4000 tax break for many college students, and an increase in student science fellowships.
Without education we will slowly develop into a third world country with no skills and less money. This is in part why The America Hand Up Program was organized.
Our Government knows that our future economy is dependent on our middle class and low income families who desperately need a higher education. The grants currently available for students include:
